Fundraising is difficult for any company, let alone for a startup working in K-12 Education. Our small team of four couldn’t have come this far without the incredible support of you, our teachers. You helped us spread the word to your colleagues down the hall and across international borders, and we’ve now connected over 100,000 students in more than 170 countries. You pay voluntarily to support students who you’ve never met to help keep PenPal Schools free for teachers in low-income communities. You provided motivation to keep us going and insight to improve our product - from our first teachers who encouraged us not to give up, to our Global Ambassadors who take time away from their busy schedules to share ideas for new features and lessons.
And so we look to you, our teachers, to plan our future. You told us how important it is to guide students’ learning, so we’re building tools to help you assess their work and provide immediate, personalized feedback. You told us that you need help engaging students to learn the skills and content on which you’ll be evaluated, so we’re creating new standards-aligned courses for students to develop reading, writing and technology skills while learning with their PenPals about social studies, science, math, and the arts. You also told us how important it is for students to learn things that won’t be tested, like empathy, collaboration, and social-emotional skills. So we’re emulating the fantastic project-based activities that many of you do in your classrooms to create workspaces where PenPal teams can discover new cultures, share perspectives, and create amazing things together.
Together with you, our teachers, we’re improving PenPal Schools to better develop the cognitive AND interpersonal skills that students need to be successful in their careers and personal lives. It’s crucial that we prepare students for a workplace that is highly competitive and globally connected. It’s equally important that we help students to build the skills necessary to maintain healthy, meaningful relationships. Together, we’ve already provided these opportunities to thousands of students around the world, and we’re excited to continue working with you in this next phase of our journey. Thank you for everything that you do for your students, thank you for being part of our global community, and thank you for making sure that your students always write back to their PenPals.
