PenPal Schools Joins Clinton Global Initative to Reach 250,000 students in developing Countries
In partnership with Cambium Learning Group Director Clifford Chiu, who has formed the Clinton Commitment to Action, the "K-12 Learning through Global Connectivity" commitment will promote skills development in language arts and STEM as well as facilitate cross-cultural collaboration in schools and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) around the world.
Students from the developing world form an extremely important part of the PenPal Schools community. The meaningful and lasting connections between students from wealthy and poor nations are eye-opening for both sides. Through these exchanges, students not only develop core reading and writing skills, but also build the empathy and collaboration necessary to address global challenges such as access to education, healthcare, economic development and environmental sustainability.
With these ambitious goals in mind, PenPal Schools has joined the Clinton Global Initiative with the goal of connecting 250,000 students in the developing world. This effort will be lead by the PenPal Schools team as well as Cambium Learning Group Director Clifford Chiu, who has formed the Clinton Commitment to Action, "K-12 Learning through Global Connectivity." This commitment will promote skills development in language arts and STEM, and facilitate cross-cultural collaboration in schools and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) located in the United States and Greater China, Korea, and India over the next three years.
Chiu and PenPal Schools seek to partner with other global CGI members to reach learners across Africa, South America, and other developing regions, and to jointly develop curriculum, communications hardware, technology software, and data analytics.
"My 2015 CGI commitment to K-12 Learning through Global Connectivity will serve as a catalyst for uniting young learners around essential educational content for business today through scalable technology," said Mr. Chiu. "It helps to fulfill my lifelong passion for embracing and empowering the isolated and underserved population in Asia."
Our founder Joe Troyen shared his excitement for the initiative, saying "We look forward to working with Clifford as well as partner organizations to provide excellent learning opportunities for students both in the U.S. and abroad." He added, “Through this commitment to action we will not only help students in underserved populations to develop essential skills, but we'll also broaden students' worldviews and foster greater international understanding and collaboration."
