It's just a great thing to learn about the rest of the world because all we know is how we grew up, but others haved lived very differently - and that's good. We should be different to make the Earth more interesting. We should be aware of our surrounding world and everyone living in it. It will connect us together and make us stronger. We all have our own religions, cultures and lifestyles, but, in the end, we are all the same and equal.
Noa, Charlotte, and Dersim did an excellent job describing traditional dishes from their community. From snacks like kroket to a caramel waffle dessert called stroopwafel, we’re more excited than ever to seek out food from the Netherlands. In addition to sharing regional favorites, each of these students also shared their personal preferences. Noa, for example, loves fruit, vegetables like spinach and carrots, and fries. Dersim enjoys Kapsalon, a meal consisting of fries, shawarma meat, Gouda cheese, and leafy greens.
When asked, why these students like working with their PenPals they had thoughtful things to say!
Noa enjoys how PenPal Schools lets him “meet new people who live in another country and to chat with them.” Charlotte likes how working with PenPals helps “practice my English in a conversation. It is a good exercise to use vocabulary and grammar to chat with others.” She also likes “chatting with people around the world. They live in other countries so I get to know something about their cultures while I'm chatting with them.” Dersim simply states, “My favorite thing about Penpal schools is that I learn how similarly or differently people live in other countries. I just find that very interesting.”
Way to go PenPals!
When asked to share their favorite thing about working with PenPals, Aidan says, “The thing that I like about Penpal Schools is that you can talk to different people around the world. I also really like the articles because I enjoy reading about different cultures. Communicating with my pen-pals is my favorite part. The fun thing about having a pen-pal is there are so many people that have the same interest as you! It is great to have friends all over the world!"
Like Aidan, his classmate Hayden says, “"I like Penpal Schools because you can communicate with other kids all around the world. I can learn about different cultures and places that I do not know about. I can discover what kids do in school or for fun. Lastly, I can learn a lot about their families. It is fun to see how I can relate to my pen-pals and their experiences."
Way to go you two!
