When we asked Seryung what her favorite part of PenPal Schools was, she told us, “My favourite part of PenPal Schools was the opportunity to learn more about the topic, which was in my case civil rights, and discuss it with our PenPals. We were able to talk to each other on our hobbies and lives, and although I couldn't see my pen pal's responses for the next couple of weeks, there was still the chance to learn more about civil rights leaders. In my case, my pen pal seemingly abandoned the program, so I used my time watching the videos and reading the passages to form responses to the questions. I enjoyed learning more in depth about the lives of famous civil rights leaders in various times and locations, such as Mahatma Gandhi and Rosa Parks.”
Check out some of Seryung’s detailed responses and notice how she does a great job of including evidence from the text while also explaining her thinking. Seryung also brings background knowledge into her responses, which helps her PenPals learn even more about diversity and discrimination!
Congratulations to Seryung P. for being such a great PenPal!
